EVEREST for HEROES 2010
EVEREST for HEROES 2010
Pete Sunnucks has only been climbing for a couple of years, but what he lacks in climbing experience, he more than makes up for in mountain fitness. Pete’s like a gazelle on the hills, pacing away, taking two steps to my one, and then laughing at me for being so slow. He can’t get enough of the outdoors, full of enthusiasm, a wealth of knowledge, and topped to the brim with outrageous banter!
I first met Pete on the challenging Air Cadet’s Junior Leaders Course just over 6 years ago. He was instructing on the course as I was starting out on it. He’s the type of guy you warm to immediately, and that’s not just because of his fiery ginger locks! Pete’s a born leader, with a big heart and impeccable manners, someone you can’t help but respect and look up to.
Since then we’ve surfed together in the Canary Isle’s, snowboarded together in France, and trekked, climbed, scrambled and camped together around most of England, Scotland, Wales and France. Not to mention sampled many fine ales in a fair few drinking establishments up and down the country.
It was through the Junior Leaders Course that he met John Thornton, and they forged a strong friendship. John’s death hit Pete hard. With so many of his other close friends preparing to go, recently returned from or currently serving out in Afghanistan, it is no surprise how much our two chosen charities mean to him and how driven he is to raise as much as we possibly can for their cause.
Pete himself is an aspiring officer and is currently in the midst of applications and selection boards; his drive and determination will surely see him through. He has recently completed a post graduate masters degree in engineering from Aston University and currently working within the Aerospace Industry.
In all truth it is an absolute honour to climb with Pete.
